Lean to be Green Design Workshop Tour 2017

This is a heads up on the upcoming Lean to be Green Design Workshop Tour planned for 2017.

Lean to be Green is a concept that involves using LEAN practices to achieve much higher levels of GREEN performance. Target Value Design (TVD) is the disciplined lean design management system that enables this performance to be achieved at less cost and risk. Unlike traditional design processes where teams often design in silos and the final cost is not known until after the tender, TVD is a dynamic collaborative process that includes concurrent estimating by the contractors that are going to be doing the work.

This hands on workshop will prepare participants to better plan and coordinate teams using best practices that are supported by Lean Construction Institute – Canada and will prepare you to become certified as a Lean Project Coordinator. Through successful collaboration and integration of building systems you learn how to deliver challenging designs at or below the target cost. In the article “Target Value Design: Current Benchmark" by Glenn Ballard we learn of current best practices and that TVD projects can be delivered with capital cost saving as much as 19%.

Target Value Design (TVD) can by itself reduce project costs by 19%

What this means for the Green Building industry, is that LEED Platinum, Living Building Challenge and NetZero projects can be delivered at very little if any additional cost, as TVD cost saving often cover any additional costs of the high performance design. What this means for the planet is that COP22 commitments can easily be achieved by making all new building NetZero by 2020. With a 2020 NetZero Vision we would significantly cut the 40% of green house gas emissions that are the responsibility of the building industry.

Lean to be Green Lean Design Workshop

In this four-hour workshop you will learn how to facilitate a lean design process. You will participate in a simulation and practice how to apply lean and more integrated practices to deliver successful NetZero projects like the Mosaic Center. The facilitators for this workshop Murray Guy, Kathleen Lausman and the Lean Team have experience on several lean and green projects and would like to share lessons learned in this four-hour workshop.
